CATEC students (from left) Ky Clancy, Anonte McCoy and Lach Myers helps each other put on gear at the fire training facility on Avon Street Extended. Students performed training exercises using real fire to prepare them for the Virginia Firefighter 1 exam. The year-long course at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC) introduces students to the equipment and procedures necessary to fight live fires, operate in hazardous materials incidents, and conduct search-and-rescue operations.
